For some, book reading is one of the best hobbies there is. It allows people to learn more, go to unknown places without traveling, and feed their imagination. But what if books were not only for reading, but also used as a material for artwork? A few years ago, Bored Panda presented book lover Elizabeth Sagan, who creates beautiful art pieces from books. Today she continues to create even more complex art installations and share them with almost 200k followers on Instagram.

Bored Panda contacted Elizabeth to find out more about her creative artwork. So, how did it all start? According to the artist, it all began in 2016 when she decided to “reconnect with the publishing world after a long reading slump.” At that time, she was looking for ideas and trends on what to read when she discovered #bookstagram—an online community on Instagram where people share their book suggestions. This is when Elizabeth herself started sharing pictures of books that she read and with time, her posts became more complex.

Elizabeth doesn’t work alone on this project. She shared: “Between me and my best friend, @james_trevino, with whom I’m working at this creative project, we have a big library we took advantage of to create the complex book constructions you see on both of our accounts.” Together with James, they have another account called @mybookfeatures where they share pictures that will inspire even the person that doesn’t like to read books. Working together, they build a community of people with the same interest sharing their discoveries and recommendations.

Have you wondered how these art installations come to life? Elizabeth also shared a little bit about her working process and revealed what is the most challenging part of the whole process: “Every couple of weeks I travel out of my home city to create the content for both mine and James’ Bookstagram accounts. For a few days, I create as much of it as possible by taking inspiration from the books I read, the movies I watch and from pop culture. The most challenging part is holding myself to the standard I’ve set up for myself and coming up with worthy ideas.”

Right now Elizabeth has 196k followers on Instagram that find interest in her book art installations. The artist revealed that she was quite surprised to see people take interest in what she does. She explained that the reason for this might be because the account provides both bookish and artistic content. Elizabeth also added: “I consider myself a reader first and a photographer second, but my love for books walks hand in hand with my artistic self. I definitely didn’t expect to get to this point, but I’m very happy things turned out this way.”
